CHRISTMAS BREAKUP: Sat 12 December, 1pm, Resource Library
Destination Mundubbera brings together family profiles of people associated with Mundubbera and its surrounding district up to 1951.
Compiled by O'Brien and Harmer as a factual biographical resource, it preserves individual and family stories that might otherwise be difficult to find in conventional genealogical records.
This is an opportunity to explore the lives behind the names and discover personal details that may help extend a family history beyond the basic facts recorded in certificates, registers and family trees.
It's available at the BGA Resource Library now!
Family profiles arranged alphabetically
This is a remarkable collection of individual and family profiles, arranged in alphabetical order by family name. It gives a practical starting point when investigating a particular surname. (It does not have an index).
It is a collection of short accounts of individuals and their families. It draws together information about their lives and experiences within the Mundubbera community. It also includes birth, death and marriage dates for most people mentioned.
These details may help establish connections between individuals, identify relatives, or provide context for your family history research. You might find relationships, shared community experiences and unexpected occupations.
The book is worth investigating if your family had any connection with Mundubbera before 1951.
The concept of Destination Mundubbera is to preserve knowledge of people whose contributions to family, community, tradition and local life might otherwise go unrecorded.
Examples highlighted in the book include migration to Australia, work and occupations, farming and orchard life, family experiences during wartime, sporting interests, accidents, natural disasters and involvement in public life.
These details can assist you in further avenues of investigation. A reference to a person's work, military service, residence or involvement in a local event may provide a useful lead.
Photographs of individuals, families and community events are included where available, putting faces to names and adding a visual dimension to the written accounts. There are also a few pictures of places and buildings. You might recognise relatives, compare known family photographs or better understand the appearance of a person, property or place associated with your family.
Not every profile includes a photograph, so please don't expect a visual record for every individual mentioned in the book.
How can you use this book?
It should be used as a supplementary family and local history resource. It can help build and support the research you've already gathered from conventional records, or be a stepping off point to start your search.
It may be particularly useful for:
Surname research: Look for a family name associated with Mundubbera and discover if there are some stories to add to your family history collection.
Extending family trees: Find biographical details that add context to family relationships.
Discovering family connections: Identify other surnames, relatives or associated families that require investigation.
Investigating occupations and daily life: Learn more about how individuals lived and worked.
Tracing movements and migration: Explore references to people who moved to Australia or between places, cities and towns.

Finding photographic material: Check if photographs of people or places associated with your family have been preserved.
Identifying further research leads: Use details in the profiles to guide searches of newspapers, archives, official records and other family history publications.
The absence of a family from the book does not mean that the family had no connection with Mundubbera.
This resource was compiled from oral history, information supplied by family members and research material available at the time of writing. The editors acknowledge that the material may contain errors, particularly in the spelling of names and places, dates of events and the interpretation of information supplied.
This book should be used alongside other evidence and ensure that significant details are verified against official, original records wherever possible.
